Spectrometers

Edinburgh Instruments is the name you turn to when you want to unlock the secrets of the most demanding applications in optical spectroscopy.

Our experience and expertise in instrumentation for fluorescence spectroscopy and laser flash photolysis spectroscopy is second to none, spanning decades with almost 1000 systems installed in universities and leading research laboratories worldwide.

We design and manufacture steady state fluorescence spectrometers, dedicated fluorescence lifetime spectrometers, combined steady state and lifetime spectrometers and laser flash photolysis spectrometers. We are leading in sensitivity specifications by detecting at the photon level, we have pioneered the technique of Time Correlated Single Photon Counting (TCSPC) in time resolved fluorescence spectroscopy and use multi-channel scaling (MCS) techniques to measure phosphorescence lifetimes. We provide a variety of detector and light source options that cover wavelengths from the VUV to the NIR.

FS5 Spectrofluorometer

The FS5 Fluorescence Spectrofluorometer

The FS5 is a fully integrated steady state fluorescence spectrometer designed to meet the highest specifications in the research and analytical markets. Ultimate sensitivity, coupled with high speed data acquisition and ease of use, makes the FS5 the ideal plug and play analytical tool. The optical design is the best in class, utilizing specially selected optics to achieve the maximum in signal throughput. Using single photon counting techniques for the highest detection sensitivity, the FS5 delivers data you can trust with no need for training. The standard FS5 has a number of upgrade routes that are unique in its class.

The FS5 delivers reliable fluorescence excitation and emission spectra. Advanced, fluorescence tailored software enables 2D, 3D, contour and chromaticity plots.

So whether you need to measure excitation and emission spectra, quantum yields, kinetics, temperature and excitation-emission maps, or even phosphorescence and fluorescence lifetimes, the FS5 with its range of advanced accessories sets the new standard for fluorescence spectroscopy.

Fluorescence Spectrometer

FLS98O Series

The modularity of our FLS980 gives users the flexibility to customize the instrumentation for their special experimental needs and the upgradability to stay on top of developing and changing research topics. Our systems are supplied with fully integrated hardware and software built into a single system. Our system operating software is user friendly, and at the same time handles all complex requirements of modularity and upgradability. The software also controls a large variety  of sample holder and temperature control options, like plate readers, integrating spheres, cryostats, titrators, etc.

LP980 Laser Flash Photolysis

LP series

A first of its kind on the market, the LP980 laser flash photolysis spectrometer allows for the measurement of transient absorption, laser-induced fluorescence and phosphorescence, Raman spectroscopy and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) all in one instrument.

The LP980 has a dual sample chamber that enables usres to reliably and accurately measure transient chemical and biological species up to 2.55 µm using the pump-probe technique AND fluorescence and phosphorescence lifetimes down to nanosecond time ranges.

The LP920 is an earlier edition in the LP Series. The spectrometer enables users to reliably and accurately measure transient absorption either in spectral and/or kinetic mode. Product upgrades for the LP920 are available on request.

Lifetime measurements

LifeSpec Series

The LifeSpec II provides ultimate temporal resolution in time resolved fluorescence spectroscopy. This series is designed to accept most modern picosecond and femtosecond lasers and the fastest detectors on the market.

Measurements of fluorescence lifetime, which historically took many minutes or even hours to perform, can quite literally be done in the blink of an eye and fitted with up to 4 lifetimes. Our advanced software has a sophisticated library that enables analysis of complex decays to various models including global analysis, distribution analysis stretched exponential component analysis, FÅ‘rster kinetics, Micellar quenching kinetics and various anisotropy models. As with the FLS980, a large variety of sample holders and temperature control options are available.

Mini-Tau series

The Mini-Tau is an ultra-compact, low cost, filter-based fluorescence lifetime spectrometer for lifetimes ranging from 25 ps to 50 us*. Using the Time Correlated Single Photon Counting (TCSPC) technique, the Mini-Tau is supplied with our T900 software and a TCC900 computer plug-in card to enable fast, reliable and accurate measurement and data analysis.

The Mini-Tau is flexible enough to be used for research, quality assurance and even for teaching applications. With an easy to use graphical user interface and comprehensive software package, the Mini-Tau is the ideal all-inclusive, fully-integrated solution.
